Byline: Combined wire services ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The New York Yankees are calling it the best possible news, saying the preliminary conclusion is Derek Jeter won't require surgery on his dislocated left shoulder. -
Team doctors said Friday that Jeter's injury should be treated ``conservatively'' instead of with an operation that could have sidelined him for most of the season.
Instead, Jeter could be back in about a month. He will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday. Jeter said the MRI he had Thursday showed a slight tear to the labrum, but the damage is manageable.
