ALBANY REJECTS PAROLEE GROUP HOME WEST HILL RESIDENTS ARE SMILING, BUT NOT STATE DIVISION OF PAROLE.(CAPITAL REGION)

ALBANY City officials have said no to a parolee group home on Sherman Street, pleasing West Hill residents but distressing state Division of Parole officials.

The 15-bed home for non-violent ex-offenders would have been run by Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime. TASC wanted to move the parolees into 145 Sherman St., a building now used by St. Catherine's Center for Children.

At a public hearing last month, neighbors criticized the proposal. So did city school officials, who plan to open an alternative high school on the same site, a former convent.
